a lot of reviews i’ve seen of rafiki have given it a 3/5 and critics are calling it a sweet, simple, almost bubblegum-ish movie…. but like that’s the whole point of it? it’s meant to be a drama at its core, but bursting with joy, music and love.

we often take advantage in the west of the fact that we can portray the sexual, political and complicated aspects of lgbt life without it being censored, but in a country with militant homophobia and anti-gay laws, a portrayal of a lesbian romance in the modern day between two black teenagers as sweet, and innocent is an incredibly brave stance to take.

rafiki is not as “complex” or “heartbreaking” or “visceral” as brokeback mountain, but it’s a powerful statement in and of itself to make a movie about lesbians that’s actually happy in tone for once. it’s something that larger studios here are still too scared to make lmao

How I would fix cartoon TV stations

gravityfallsrockz

Nickelodeon:

Spongebob and The Loud House are literally the only two cartoons airing on the main channel right now and getting a lot of air time. When it’s not them, then it’s mostly sitcoms. And when a new cartoon does come on Nickelodeon, Nick cancels it right away, thinking it won’t do so well. How I would fix it is to add more new cartoons and not cancel them right away. Not only does this add variety to the schedule, but it also gives them a chance to become popular and be more noticed. Also, I would probably add a block that shows old cartoons on the network to bring back old fans and increase viewership on the network.

Nicktoons:

Nicktoons airs a lot of modern cartoons and live action stuff on this network. To improve this, I would make this channel be like Cartoon Network’s Boomerang channel, meaning that this channel would only air old nick cartoons to give viewers that nostalgic feel and increase more viewership in the network.

Cartoon Network:

I think we all know the biggest problem with Cartoon Network right now and it’s the scheduling. Cartoon Network majorly airs Teen Titans Go! and it’s getting really sickening and tiring. They barely air any of their other programming and it really feels like they don’t care for their other shows. To fix this, I would air more of the better modern cartoons and give them more screen time to ring in viewers and give the newer cartoons a chance so more people would get into the fandom and increase ratings for the network. I would also like for Nick, I would give a block to show older cartoons to bring back fans and increase even more viewership for the network.

Boomerang:

Boomerang like Nicktoons is now starting to air more modern cartoons and less of their older programing. The only older programming they show majorly is Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry and Scooby-Doo. Boomerang shouldn’t only have that. They should showcase more older programming and cartoons from the 90′s and early 200′s and maybe even a little before 2010. To improve Boomerang, I would showcase shows from those eras and older. I’ve also noticed that Boomerang shows a lot of Scooby-Doo movies and barely any others. I would also put back and showcase more Hanna-Barbera movies. Those things would really improve Boomerang.

Disney Channel:

Now the problem with Disney Channel is that they don’t showcase their cartoons. They only show sitcoms. And when they do get a new cartoon, they quickly move it to Disney XD. I would fix Disney channel by airing more of their animated programming, although it looks like that Disney channel is already doing that and are improving. They recently returned Gravity Falls to the schedule and now Ducktales is moving there in May and Star Vs. the Forces of Evil’s fourth season is also moving to Disney channel. And recently, I heard that Disney channel will be getting two new cartoons called The Owl House and Amphibia. This is a step in the right direction. Less people had Disney XD, so when the cartoons were on there, less people were able to watch since not many people have that channel, thus a decrease in ratings. But now, with these cartoons coming to Disney channel and since more people have Disney channel, they will get more views and more people will come into fandoms and give a big increase in ratings for Disney channel. If Disney channel keeps this up, then they’ll really be successful.

And that’s how I would fix these cartoon tv stations. And if they do these things, then I know that they’ll return to their former glory.

I really hope that Love, Simon changes the way we do LGBT movies because I swear to God, every lesbian/wlw movie on netflix is a weird sex drama that involves one woman leaving her man for another woman in passionate sex affair and like???? not relatable???? give me girls who like girls in a dumb romantic comedy, not a melodramatic indie movie. I shouldn’t have to watch a soft porno in order to see two women falling in love.
